I was humbly amazed after attending this webinar honestly gave me a better understanding of how broad the field of information science really is, especially when it comes to cybersecurity. Before this, I mostly thought of cybersecurity as something very technical, like hacking or protecting systems, but this event showed me that it also involves things like data governance, ethics, and decision-making at an organizational level. It made me realize that information professionals play a much bigger role than I originally thought. One thing that stood out to me was the idea of using frameworks like NIST to manage security risks. At first, I didn’t fully understand how something like a framework would be used in real situations, but the way it was explained helped me see how it gives structure to handling threats and protecting systems. It also made me realize that cybersecurity isn’t just about reacting to attacks, but about being prepared and having a plan in place. Once I did that, it started to make more sense, especially how everything ties back to protecting information and making responsible decisions. This experience also made me think more seriously about my career path. I’ve been interested in cybersecurity, but this event showed me that I might want to focus more on areas like governance, risk management, or compliance instead of just technical roles. It helped me see that I can combine technical knowledge with communication and decision-making skills. Overall, this webinar was a valuable experience because it helped me connect what I’ve been learning in class to real-world applications. It also pushed me to think more deeply about where I fit in the field and what kind of role I want to pursue after graduating.
