Doing this assignment honestly made me realize how complicated the whole lawmaking process is, especially when it comes to something like data privacy. I used to think laws about technology were passed pretty quickly because the issues are so important, but after going through the American Privacy Rights Act, I saw how many steps are actually involved. From writing the bill, to committee reviews, to debates and changes, it takes a lot longer than I expected.

One part I struggled with was keeping everything organized while explaining the legislative process. There’s a lot of information, and it was easy to get lost in the details of how the bill moves through Congress. I also had to think harder about all the different groups involved, like companies, the government, and everyday users, and how each of them is affected differently.

What stood out most to me is how connected this topic is to my field in information science and cybersecurity. It made me realize that working in tech isn’t just about systems and security, but also understanding the laws that control how data is used. I didn’t really think about that as much before this assignment.

Overall, this helped me see data privacy in a more real-world way instead of just something we talk about in class. It feels more relevant now, especially with how much personal data is shared online today.
